Lewisville Lake occupies the Elm Fork of the Trinity River in Denton County, close to Lewisville and the northern Dallas suburbs. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) lists a 1954 impoundment, 29,592 surface acres and a conservation-pool elevation of 522 feet. These are reference facts about the reservoir, not a promise that a shoreline, ramp or fishing spot will look the same on the day of a visit. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is the controlling authority identified by TPWD.

The size of the lake invites different kinds of outings. Someone planning to launch a boat can compare north-shore ramps before leaving home; an angler can choose between timber, bridges and more open water. Neither a lake-wide level nor an old park description confirms that a particular ramp is usable today.

Fish and the structure that holds them

TPWD names largemouth and spotted bass, white and hybrid striped bass, white crappie, and blue and channel catfish among the lake’s predominant fish. Its fishing profile describes standing timber as cover for crappie and largemouth bass. It also points anglers toward bridges across the lake’s arms for crappie, humps and ridges in Hickory Creek and the main lake for hybrids, and the old Lake Dallas area for catfish. These are agency descriptions of habitat and seasonal patterns, not predictions of a catch.

For a first trip, those distinctions matter more than a lake-wide fishing label. Timber and shore cover call for a different route and boat-handling plan than open main-lake water. TPWD describes white bass schooling in the main lake during summer, but that does not locate a school on a particular day. Three north-shore starting points

Hickory Creek campground sits on the Hickory Creek arm and its federal listing identifies a campground boat ramp. Farther along the north shore, Westlake Day Use is a separate group-shelter area near the water; TPWD also lists a Westlake Park ramp. Pilot Knoll lies off the FM 407 approach and is operated by Flower Mound, according to TPWD. These are distinct places with different operators or uses, so check the specific listing before choosing one.

The TPWD Lewisville ramp survey records ramp coordinates for these sites, but its observations describe August 2019. A map pin helps find an access area; it is not a current inspection or a substitute for the operator’s directions. The access directory also identifies municipal ramps around other parts of the lake if a north-shore launch does not fit the trip.
